What is Distinctive Ringtone?

The Yeastar phone system offers Distinctive Ringtone (also known as a smart ring, caller ID ringtone, or ringtone assignment) is a feature that allows you to assign a unique ringtone or alert to a specific caller or group of callers. For example, if you configure the distinctive ringing for custom ring tone to “Asia”, the ring tone will be played if the phone receives the incoming call. This lets you identify who is calling without having to look at your phone's screen.

How does it works?

Distinctive ringtone feature allows certain incoming calls to trigger IP phones or Linkus UC Clients to play specific ringtones, making it easy to identify important calls at a glance. This feature can be implemented in the following ways:

On IP phone

IP phones identify distinctive rings by using a special signal called an "Alert-Info" header. Here's how it works:

  • The Yeastar PBX attaches a unique identifier (the "alert info text") to the incoming call signal.
  • This signal is sent to the IP phone.
  • The phone detects this identifier and matches it to a pre-set ringtone in its system, causing it to play the correct sound.

On Linkus UC Clients

Linkus Distinctive Ringtone lets you assign unique sounds to different callers and types of calls.

That way, you know exactly who's calling just by listening to the ring.

You can set these custom rings for almost any situation: for a specific contact, all internal calls, all external calls, or calls coming from specific system features like IVR menus, ring groups, or queues. This feature is available on all Linkus clients — Desktop, Web, and Mobile. You can choose from 10+ built-in tones or even upload your own custom sound files for a truly personalized experience.
