Key Discussion Points:
1 [05:15] Why Yeastar Focuses on Trunk Sharing?
#1 Profit Boost: Helping ITSPs & Providers Maximize Revenue
Ramon 02:13
If you guys notice our new updates on the P-Series PBX, we mainly focus on enhancing the management experience and cost effectiveness of our system. The whole reason behind it is because we want to adjust our YCM to make it more suitable for the ITSPs.
Ramon 05:19
The new feature we’ve been talking about is Trunk Sharing.
Ramon 05:57
The reason why we have trunk sharing is to make sure that the operators and customers can make more money.
Ramon 6:23
Because with trunk sharing, basically you can sell one sip trunk to multiple customers.
If you are working without the Trunk Sharing feature, you have 20 customers, each of them needs one SIP trunk, one channel, one concurrent call, you will have to pay sometimes 30%-40% more!
But now with the Trunk Sharing feature, you are doing one sip trunk with 20 concurrent calls. You’re distributing the different channels to them. So that will save you a lot of money.
#2 Tech Edge: Bypassing Carrier IP Blocklists
Jason 11:27
Also we got some technical reasons. Technically, if you’re going to set up all these sip trunks, originally the connection it builds between the carrier and your SBC proxy. So think about it guys. The SBC proxy uses one fixed IP address. We use that one to get connected with all of our service providers. But there maybe just one carrier.
Ramon 12:04
The ITSPs all go through the same IP address.
Jason 12:09
This is so suspicious for the carrier. They’re just gonna block you.
2 [14:45] Beyond Trunk Sharing: What Else Do ITSPs Care About?
Jason 14:45
This time I’m on a business trip. There are so many ITSPs, and what they care about the most is always gonna be management.
Ramon 15:00
Can you give us a few examples of what exactly they are?
Jason 15:30
We have some other projects with Wow. They have a very particular requirement. They just wanna figure out the integration between our YCM and their management platform.
Ramon 15:47
They need an API for the YCM. Why do they need that?
Jason 15:51
For the carrier, usually, what they provide to the customers is not just a phone system. They have so many services. And eventually, where they’re going to manage the whole thing is their own platform. That’s why they require the API integration to put our YCM be a part of their management system. They will just jump into their platform to create the instance and manage the SIP trunk. That’s what they need.
Jason 16:35
And funny story is all these features we were talking about, they don’t care. I guess the only thing they care about might be: Can I set up extensions easily? Does Linkus work reliably? Can I check voicemail without hassle? Will my IP phones auto-provision? Everything else? Nice-to-have, but not what keeps them up at night.
Ramon 16:55
According to our experience, actually, IVR is the furthest they go.
Ramon 22:30
When phone systems become just another line item in a bulk service package, innovation takes a backseat to cost arbitrage. So you can imagine the most important thing for ITSPs is to reduce the cost of the phone system.
3 [24:44] Yeastar Central Management: Tools Built for ITSP Success
Jason 24:43
For ITSPs, the product they’re selling is the SIP trunk. They’re trying their best to control the cost. How can I just minimize my cost and maximize my profit?
Ramon 24:55
You can look at some features that are designed in YCM, like PBX Provisioning — that’s for ITSPs. And there are more features that we’re planning, for example, we are going to offer high availability for SBC load balance.
Jason 25:41
ITSP partners can also try to get the white label.
Ramon 26:29
Another thing to consider is that fewer and fewer people are using desktop phones these days—most have switched to softphones. That’s why offering softphones is essential. Whether you’re reselling devices or operating as an ITSP, you need a way to generate revenue from extensions and users. And if they’re no longer using IP phones, softphones are the solution. With our Linkus UC Client, users can connect seamlessly on iOS, Android, and Google Play.
4 [28:50] Multi-instance vs. Multi-tenant: Which Is Better for ITSP?
Ramon 28:50
The best way for ITSPs to slash phone system costs is by going multi-tenant.
Jason 29:08
Even though we provide you guys the multi-instance solution, but seriously, for ITSPs probably multi-tenant will be more popular.
Ramon 29:23
According to our experience and research, the cost to operate a multi-tenant system is only 20% of other structures. (same capacity, same size) . But the bad thing is if it’s multi-tenant, it’s going to be very difficult for you to manage rich functions.
Jason 30:04
You have to figure out the balance. Now you got the multi-tenant, you can give your customers a very dynamic package. But sure thing the service is not able to provide you so many features.
Jason 31:12
It really depends on your target market. For small businesses, like the example we discussed, a multi-tenant solution is a great fit. They usually just need basic functionality: a phone and a number, and that’s it.
But if you’re dealing with larger clients, like call centers or companies with higher demands, a multi-instance setup might be better. At the very least, a centralized PBX hub can handle everything more efficiently.
